Hello!
I swear DC has been under a huge rain cloud for the last three weeks! It’s been gloomy, grey, and unseasonably chilly. I don’t know about the rest of you, but my mood seems irrevocably tied to the weather. If it’s gloomy outside, I feel tired, unmotivated, and just generally cranky. I hate feeling that way … and I have too many people relying on me each day to let the weather knock me off my game. I tend to believe attitude is everything, so rather than let the rainy day blues get me down, I focus on the things I can control to make the environment more positive. And what better way to bring some light into your life (and maybe a smile to your face) than happy, bright, beautiful colors!? Numerous studies have shown that bright colors has a positive impact on mood — and depending upon the color, it can make you feel calmer, happier, and more energetic. I believe it 🙂
Neon Waffle Knit Sweater (Splurge here, Steal here, now 50% off!) // Blue Skinny Jeans (Splurge here, Steal here) // Bomber Jacket (Splurge here, Steal here) // Grey Suede Belt (Available here) // Green Rain Boots (Splurge here, Steal here) // Tan Leather Handbag (Splurge here, Steal here) // Pearl Earrings (Splurge here, Steal here) // Watch (Splurge here, Steal here)
A little goes a long way with neon brights, and I wouldn’t be staying true to my style if I went overboard here. The sweater and the umbrella were just enough, and I let them stand out by keeping the rest of my outfit understated in terms of color.
Olive green is probably one of my favorite colors, though I don’t wear it much (go figure!), so when I saw this jacket I simply had to have it! It seemed like the perfect addition to the sweater, to ground it, and provide a bit of edge. And the green Coach boots were a gift from my hubby (he did good :))!
I kept the rest of the look classic — blue jeans, simple watch, and pearl studs (my go to, if you haven’t noticed yet).
And in terms of makeup, keep it fresh, dewy, and don’t forget your highlighter!
So what do you wear when it’s rainy to lift your mood — let me know, I’d love to hear from you!
yours, Kristin
