Happy Memorial Day Weekend Everyone!
This weekend marks the official beginning of summer, so it’s tempting to get caught up in all the excitement — the beach, pool parties, barbecues, weddings, parties!
But, before we get to the fun (and the amazing style associated with the season), I’d like to take a moment to thank all the men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our great nation. You’re all heroes who gave your life for the most honorable cause this world has ever known, defending something that all Americans cherish but far too often take for granted — freedom. We will forever be indebted to you, and you won’t be forgotten.
The spirit of this holiday played a significant role in my style selection for this post — what could be more patriotic than stripes, and more all-American than classic, cut-off jeans!? You can take this look to a barbecue, picnic, the beach, a pool party — it’s incredibly versatile. True to my style, I kept things neutral in regards to color, and let the small details take center stage.
I wore this exact same hoodie in my last post (all about versatility here!), which you can see here, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite items for the spring/summer months. I just adore the side slit detail — it’s a great, unexpected way to show a little peek of skin without sacrificing class. Another great purchase this season is the espadrilles — I have them in both stripes (seen here), and in pink (also seen in my previous post here). They’re simple, playful, and most importantly, comfortable!
I think my favorite part of this look, however, is the hat. I admit, I’m not naturally a hat person — I find that I have to find the perfect one, otherwise I just look funny 🙂 My husband disagrees, and he’s always trying to get me to wear them (but I’d say he’s a bit of a biased observer!). I had to get creative. I knew what I wanted when I went searching for the perfect panama hat, and I just couldn’t find it. I wanted soft pink, and stripes, and I didn’t want to spend a fortune. I looked for weeks, and found nothing … so I made this one (well, partly anyhow)!
The hat I purchased had a simple black ribbon, so I went to the fabric store, found the perfect pink and white striped ribbon, purchased an antique gold button at an estate sale, and busted out the fabric glue and needle & thread! And, I LOVE it! It’s exactly what I envisioned, and I’ll probably wear it more often because I put a little work into it … which will make Jacob happy 🙂
I hope you all enjoy the holiday weekend, no matter what you choose to wear!
Make sure to stop by this Sunday for a post on the pant that you’ll wear all summer long (I’m so in love with these pants, I’d wear them every day if I could!) — I’ll be showing them two different ways — like a boss for work, and for date night with the hubby!
In the meantime, I’d love to hear how your weekend goes, and what you end up wearing to all your holiday events.
yours, Kristin
