Hello! With Christmas only a week away now, and with you no doubt scrambling around taking care of all things holiday-related, I thought you could use a little breath of fresh air, and a brake from the madness. So, this is a holiday-free post! I think it’s the perfect time to discuss today’s topic because it may fit in perfectly with the New Year, and any family-oriented resolutions you may be planning to implement.
So, how many of you have a set of “family rules” for your home? They don’t necessarily need to be written down, but they’re the set of principles you and your family live by … it’s the things you teach your children on a daily basis … the things you believe, and the things you hope one day your babies will embody.
Have you ever thought about writing them down and displaying them in a place your family will see each day?
We proudly display ours on the inside door of our front closet … and although Olivia, Emme, and Kellen are young, we talk about them! We talk about what they mean in simple ways, and how we can practice them each day. These are lessons that are never too early to learn. Plus, let’s be honest, even mom and dad need a reminder now and then … I look at our rules every morning when I grab my coat to head out the door, and it reminds me who I want to be, for Jacob, for my babies, and for God. I’m not perfect, and I fall short of our list every day, but I know that seeing this list as a reminder each morning inspires me to do better.
So what principles do you hope to instill in your kids … what values do you try to live by each day? If you share our values, and would like a similar one displayed in your home, you can purchase your own digital, instant downloadable file here … I had mine printed at FedEx on a poster and mounted onto a foam board.
I’m also happy to make you your own custom version with whatever rules, values, or message you’d like … just email me at [email protected] and let me know the exact text you’d like! I can also change the title to read “The [Your Name] Family Rules” if you’d like your rules board personalized to your family, and I can also change up the font or color scheme to suit your home.
The standard version above is $7.99 and a custom version is $12.99.
I hope you all have a great rest of the week — take some time to slow down, enjoy the holiday lights, sip some cocoa, love on your family, and just be. Remember, despite our culture’s best efforts to tell us otherwise, this season is not about gifts or parties … it’s about God … it’s about being with those you love … it’s about reflection. Enjoy every moment. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays friends!
