Hello! Welcome to the next edition of our Post-Holiday Home Refresh! If you missed my Bedroom Refresh post you can read it here.
Today, we’re tackling the kitchen and dining area, two places that probably got a lot of use during the holidays. Which is why one of the first things I like to do after packing away all the holiday decor and cookware, is a deep clean. I prefer to use natural cleaning products, and the mix below is one of my favorites for post-holiday cleaning — the citrus scent just makes everything feel fresh and new, you know, like you want everything to feel when you start with a clean slate in the New Year!
To make: mix the juice from one lemon and one lime (be sure to strain out all the pulp using a coffee filter or cheesecloth), one cup of white vinegar, and one cup of water. Pour mixture into a spray bottle and go to work! I promise, your kitchen has never smelled so clean and fresh.
Post-holidays is also a great time to swap out water filters, scrub brushes, dish rags and towels. I don’t know what happens in your home, but my dish towels in particular are an entirely new shade of goo after the holidays. After all the turkey cooking, fudge-making, and cookie baking … and little babies running around wiping their chocolate covered faces and hands on them, my dish towels are done! Here are a few pretty ones for a refresh:
The kitchen can also look at bit bare after all the Christmas decor comes down in our home … so I like to fill our kitchen with with fresh flowers, citrus, or pretty greenery. An indoor herb garden is another wonderful option — you can purchase a grow kit like this, grow one with a no soil LED light system like this, or create your own in pots and hang them on the wall with this gorgeous terra cotta wall pot holder. I’m a big wreath fan too … an unexpected but beautiful addition to the kitchen or dining room. And I always have fresh flowers in our home, but I’m also a fan of faux or preserved greenery and flowers … I have three kids — the faux and preserved versions require little to no maintenance and always look beautiful, especially in an eye-catching vase! Don’t believe me, take a peek:
Once you tackle the kitchen, it’s time to move on to the dining area. I pull out our spring/summer table runner (which I stored away for the holidays) — it’s light and bright — I prefer white, cream, soft beige, etc. this time of year. Snap up or create your own dining table centerpiece … I generally reach for mosses and succulents, fresh white flowers, or an earthy wreath with a center candle … the options are endless so be creative. Terrain is one of my favorites, and it has so many wonderful ideas. Here are a few table linens that I’m loving:
Finally, bring a wonderful scent to your space with an essential oil diffuser … I love these. We have one in our living/dining space and in our bedroom. My go to oil is Anthropologie’s Capri Blue, but there are so many wonderful spring scents … see below for a few options.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend … stay warm and enjoy the refresh process!
