We’re heading off to Oregon next week for a wedding, so I have a crazy weekend of errand-running, shopping, and packing! My head is already spinning with all the things I need to get done, so I apologize that this post is a short one!
It’s hard to believe but fall is right around the corner — this summer is going by sooooo fast, it’s crazy! It’s almost time for all those cozy layers to come out — yaaaay! Fall is by far my favorite season for fashion. Outfits are so much richer, and more interesting when you can play with different layers and textures. I LOVE it!
And this vest is the perfect piece to get you started. It’s still pretty lightweight, so you can layer a silk blouse under it on a moderately cool day, or a chunky sweater once the temps dip lower. It’s a great piece you can wear over a variety of looks. I wore it, and nothing else, over tuxedo pants for a date-night look in this post earlier this summer. It was such a fun look, I received a ton of compliments that night!
One of the best parts about this look, in my opinion, is that it’s simple. The majority of the pieces I’m wearing here are just basics — my comfiest pair of jeans, a silk blouse, classic suede pumps, and a sleek, neutral shoulder bag, That’s 80% of the look – every woman should have some version of these in her closet!
The rest of the outfit is all in the details. A bandana is a simple way to add interest and color to the look. And you can never go wrong layering a few delicate necklaces over a blouse like this — it always looks elegant, even with a utility vest!
I also chose a light pink shoe to offset the masculinity of the vest, and soften the whole look a bit. I would characterize my style as distinctly feminine, so there’s always some element of softness in every one of my looks, even when I wear sneakers, jeans, and a ball cap. Here, it’s the shoes, and the soft flowing fabric of the blouse.
I stuck with one of my favorites for the sunnies — aviators, seriously the coolest sunglasses to ever enter the fashion scene. Of course, Top Gun certainly helped things along, and I am a pilot myself, so I’ll always have a special affection for these classic sunglasses.
And that’s it — a simple, layered look to take you into the fall months!
I hope you all have an amazing weekend, and stay tuned for a new post Monday morning!
AND, if there’s anything any of you would like to see in an upcoming post, please send me a note or leave a comment. The blog has been up for about 3 months now, and I’ve definitely identified a variety of things I’d like to improve upon/streamline, so I’ll be unveiling a complete re-design in the next 4-6 weeks, which I’m very excited about! But in the meantime, it’s time for some feedback from all of you! What do you like? What can I do better? Send me a note or leave a comment — I’m eager to hear your thoughts 🙂
