There’s something about the classics — classic colors, silhouettes, and patterns — that always call my name. With a few simple pieces you’ll have the perfect foundation for a variety of looks, or a combination of classics you can layer to create a sophisticated, streamlined look.
First, the wrap coat — always in style, always classic, and always comfortable. You can’t go wrong with this staple. While it’s fun to go with a color, a woman should always have a neutral — black, navy, camel, white or grey — coat in her closet.
The super-soft and cozy turtleneck sweater — extra points for an oversized neck and long sleeves that you can either cuff or let peek out from the sleeves of your coat. Again, a classic color will give you the most wear because it goes with everything.
How fun are these loafers? Animal print, particularly in small doses, can give you a shot of sophistication like nothing else. In traditional animal print colors, it may be the one pattern (ok, other than stripes), that can actually qualify as a neutral. Against an all neutral backdrop like I’m wearing here, they give the look that small detail that says, “I may be neutral, but I’m never boring.” Or go with a brightly colored top or a striped shirt, and you’ve instantly transformed your look to “youthful, fun, and carefree.”
And finally, the classic bucket bag. I love this one because it’s a bit more structured than the slouchy ones that have been all the rage lately. I tend to lean towards structured pieces in general, favoring a sophisticated look over the laid-back bohemian vibe (but kudos to the ladies out there who favor the latter — I’m all about being true to yourself and your own unique style!).
