Hello Everyone … Happy (almost) Friday!
With summer in full swing now I thought it’s time to start featuring some dresses on the blog! In addition to being a closet staple for various summer events — weddings, picnics, backyard BBQs, and parties — dresses are wonderful in the summer because they give you a bit of breathing room . Here in DC, it not only gets hot, it gets humid … and I mean humid! Nothing combats that sticky icky feeling like a loose, flowy dress!
I found this one and fell in love with the subtle stripe pattern and pleats. I normally shy away from pleats because they just tend to add bulk where I don’t want to add bulk. But, I took a chance with this dress and was pleasantly surprised! The pleats are inverted, so they’re actually quite slimming, and they provide wonderful shaping along the backside to accentuate my waistline. And can we talk about these stripes?! Love! They remind me of a seersucker, but far more elegant. From a distance the dress looks like a soft blue, but up close the stripe detail comes out and it’s simply gorgeous.
I wore the dress out and about in the city during Memorial Day weekend — we were doing some walking that day so I added my canvas and leather strap wedges (a bit more comfortable than walking around in heels all day!). Of course, I had my trademark pearls (what can I say, they’re just me and they go with everything). I chose a simple, sleek bag to keep the focus on the dress — and let the stripes and pleats take center stage.
A quick side story about the last picture — we came across this wall in a gallery near Union Market in D.C. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my life is that if you really want something you have to work for it — you’ve gotta hustle! Work hard, don’t complain, and never give up. So, when I saw this wall, I absolutely had to have a picture of it!
Stay tuned for this Sunday’s post on another amazing summer dress — the kimono — which you can honestly wear anywhere — brunch, an afternoon BBQ, rooftop happy hours, or even the beach (it would make a fantastic swimsuit coverup!)
In the meantime, I’d love to hear what your favorite summer outfit is, so send me a note 🙂
yours, Kristin
