Hello! Wow, this past week has been a wet one! It seems the California drought has decided to take a vacation this season. Our county is averaging anywhere from 200 to 500% (depending on where you are, as our county has a variety of microclimates) of normal rainfall totals! So, we’ve been stuck in the house, which is highly unusual for us.
With all the time inside, I’ve been doing some reorganizing around the house — not uncommon for this time of year. While looking online for some tips, I stumbled across this beautiful kitchen reno, plus some pretty amazing built in organization/storage ideas. Love these!
And speaking of being stuck in doors, this little lamp project I’m going to share with you happened only because the weather kept me bored inside! I’ve developed a mini lamp obsession as of late, particularly little lamps with pleated shades! I found the one above at Target, but it didn’t quite fit with our house, so … project! If you recall, I found the neatest DIY ornaments on Pinterest, which I shared last month. Well, they turned out so well, I thought, why can’t I do the same thing with this little lamp? It turned out beautifully! You can choose whatever colors you like, but I went for a deep cranberry and beige. The effect is rich, multi-dimensional, and textured! I adore it. And I swapped out the regular lampshade for the a pleated one — less modern, more vintage.
First, remove the lampshade. Simply paint the lamp base entirely with the darker of your chosen colors. Once dry, use a sponge or towel to dab on the second color (the lighter of the two) on top of your base color. Be sure to leave some of the darker color peeking through. Working quickly, before the second color has a chance to dry, use a fresh paint brush and dab Plaster of Paris all around the lamp, so it sticks to the wet top coat of paint. Again, let some of the two paint colors come through (don’t overcoat with the plaster). Set aside to dry. Then re-attach the lampshade. Voilà!
And here’s a pin-able graphic that breaks down each step for you!
File it away.
Share it.
Whatever you like!
I also linked to each of the items I used below. I used Deco Art Americana acrylic paints in Cranberry Wine (base color) and Fawn (top color).
I think a deep navy would be beautiful as well, I almost used this one instead of the Cranberry Wine for the base color!
Happy DIY-ing!
DIY Lamp Project Essentials
If you’re like me, you tend to use the new year as an opportunity to simplify. For me, this goes for my home and my wardrobe.
My favorite new uniform? Jeans and a crisp striped button down. I find myself wearing this on repeat … it’s comfortable and effortlessly polished. And while I don’t really follow trends, I must say it’s fun to see so many nods to the 80s and 90s popping up again … born in 1982, those are my decades 🙂
I also have a sweet nostalgia for Ralph Lauren’s casual preppy vibe. This shirt may be one of my all-time favorites. Notice this look is still Essential 25-heavy — your white button down would do just fine, but if you’re looking to add a bit more interest, stripes are my favorite 🙂

Pretty Striped Shirts
One note — Ralph Lauren, being preppy in nature, generally has quite a tailored fit. If you want a more modern, oversized look, be sure to size up! I normally wear a small, but I went with a large in this particular shirt. It’s long enough to wear with leggings or tuck in for an oversized look.
Finally, I stumbled upon this list of home decor trends for 2023 — I already have so many of these in my home! Loving the nature-inspired wallpaper, warm-toned moody colors, and natural wood!
I hope you all have a wonderful week — slow down, be present, and enjoy every moment!
