Hello! It’s Sunday and almost the end of July, can you believe it? Where has the summer gone? We enjoyed a weekend out in the garden, planted some new olive trees, and spent a fun day at the California mid-state Fair, which is always a hit for our family!
The goods for this week …
It’s beautiful, isn’t it? Would you believe this gorgeous Wild Parsley print by Sarah Paxton Ball Dodson is free for download at the Smithsonian American Art Museum? Yup, it is. You’re welcome. I used mpix.com and ordered a high quality giclée print — if you register for an account you’ll receive 25% off your first order!
I don’t know about you, but I’m all about florals lately. They’re romantic, feminine, and work in both the summer and fall months. Swap your sandals for boots and your tank for a slouchy sweater for a simple, smooth transition. Below are a few preview pieces I’ve already loaded in my shopping cart!
I know we’re in the middle of summer, but in my view, there’s no bad time for hot chocolate. And we’ve been feeling a bit under the weather the last few weeks (me, with one nasty sinus infection), and chocolate just makes everything better, so here you go! This is just yummy!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 Cups Milk
- 1/2 Cup Cream
- 1 Tbsp Lavender, dried culinary grade
- 4 oz Milk Chocolate
- 1 oz Dark Chocolate
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Pinch Salt
Combine the milk, cream, and lavender in a medium saucepan, and bring it to a simmer. Once at a simmer, remove the pan from the heat and cover it with a lid. Let it sit and steep for 30 minutes, to infuse the milk with lavender flavor. Reduce the steeping time for a more subtle lavender flavor.
Pour the milk through a strainer into a bowl to remove the lavender, then return the milk to the saucepan. Put the pan on the heat and bring it back to a simmer, but don’t let it boil. Remove the pan from the heat and add the chopped milk chocolate, dark chocolate, salt, and vanilla extract.
Whisk until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream. Sprinkle a few lavender buds on top and enjoy!
If you’re in search for a gorgeous pendant light — I’ve got the one for you! I’m seriously considering adding a pendant above my kitchen sink just so I can have this gorgeous light. If you’ve checked out my kitchen renovation post, you know I have a thing for blue and white. The obsession continues.
This week’s thought worth sharing:
If someone treats you unkindly for no reason their behavior says far more about them than it does you.
It took me a long time to learn this simple truth, and every now and then, like this week, I still need reminding. When I feel someone is upset with me, I try to make it right. I think about whether I’ve done something to hurt them or done something that could have been misinterpreted in some way. It’s a healthy exercise — one that we should all do. But sometimes, there’s just nothing there. So do yourself a favor — if you’ve considered every angle, sincerely searched for any potential wrong, and you simply can’t find it, accept that the problem is not you, it’s them. If I’ve learned anything in my 40 years of life, it’s that some people are just deeply unhappy (even if they don’t appear so on the outside), and (1) your energy or positivity upsets them, exacerbating their unhappiness or insecurities, or (2) the only way they know how to feel better is to make someone else feel worse. If you find yourself in this situation, just know, it’s not you and the best thing you can do is keep your chin up and pray for them — there’s nothing wrong with you and they’re going through something.
Wishing you all wonderful week!
