FALL NATURE WALK & CRAFTS
The weather this past weekend was simply beautiful, so we decided to go for a nature walk! Of all the things we do with the kids, there’s nothing that makes me light up inside more than seeing their faces when they discover something new — something that may be completely ordinary to you or me, but to their wondrous eyes it’s a unique treasure. An acorn, a pine cone … they get so excited by these little gifts of nature!

We collected as much as we could, without getting carried away, of course. There were a few times I had to tell Emme to stop bringing me crushed, half-broken brown leaves. Since there are about a million of those lying around, I encouraged her to look for “different” types of leaves. She accepted the challenge, and brought me a full rainbow of colors, and a smiling face beaming with pride.

When we got home, we dumped it all out! We identified a whole variety of colors, textures, and shapes. Livi, being the creative little angel she is, got to work making a “nest” with “her collection”.

I thought it was so beautiful I decided to add another craft idea to our mix — a shadow box! We ordered one … this one was perfect … and tried to re-create her “nest” in the box so she could preserve it and enjoy it for years to come.

Once inside, we organized our finds into a nature box! Well, there is no such thing really, but a tea display box works really well — it has a clear top so you can see into each compartment and close it up when you’re all done! This one is great!
Finally, Livi decided to gather a few of mama’s flowers and give her new flower press a try. We chose a couple “fall flowers” and put the press to work!

It takes a few weeks, so stay tuned on Insta for the final product. I’ll probably purchase a frame, like this one, arrange the flowers inside, and add some pretty text beneath them stating “Autumn”, similar to what we did for her shadow box above … I think we’ll do the same thing each season so we have a framed collection representing each season!
Our nature walk was the perfect way to spend a weekend morning — we took a little detour to Starbucks so Jacob and I could sip and chat while our girlies did all the collecting. Kellen was content to sleep in his carrier … it was what a weekend morning should be … learning, exploring, with just each other, no distractions, completely present and in the moment. Those times are rare, so I soaked up every second!
Stay tuned on Insta for how our flower press project turned out … I’ll frame them and make em’ look pretty!
In the meantime, you can shop the post below, and pick up everything you need for your nature walk crafts: a “nature box”, flower press, and shadow box. The rest of the supplies are up to you — let’s see what your littles can find! Livi’s sweatshirt and both girls’ leggings were unavailable to include with a picture below, but I linked to them directly above! And in my search, I found a couple other similar items that are super cute, which I included below.
Have a great week ladies!
