Hello Everyone!
This week has blown by — I intended to get this post up to you yesterday, but … well, welcome to my life as a full-time working mommy.
But, I got it up today (#bigwin)! So, here you go — my smoothie/juice (depending on how thick you like it) concoction that I drink almost EVERY morning. It tastes like a spring morning feels, it’s packed with all kinds of good for you stuff that gets your day going (in other words, energy!), and it gives you a nice healthy glow (minus loads of bronzer and highlighter). Bottoms up 🙂
THE RECIPE
1 cup fresh spinach
1 cup fresh kale
½ mango (fresh or frozen)
½ banana
small handful of ice
pineapple juice
juice from ½ lemon
water
*For the pineapple juice and water, the amount will vary depending upon taste, and whether you’re trying to control your sugar intake. I generally use about ¼ pineapple juice, and ¾ cup water because I like to avoid too much added sugar. Jacob likes the reverse, ¾ juice, ¼ water (and naturally, he can do that without it ever affecting his waist-line … so jealous).
*For a thicker, smoothie-like consistency, use less of the juice/water mixture, and for a juice-like consistency, use more. I tend to like mine a bit smoothie-like, but not too thick.
*For added antioxidants, I sometimes toss in a few berries as well, but this does alter the flavor quite a bit, and I tend to really enjoy this smoothie without the berries – it’s just so simple and fresh tasting. But, every now and then I’ll add them for a little extra boost!
And now, for the other half of this glow-getting equation!
As I said above, this smoothie does all the right things to help give you beautiful skin from the inside out! Now all we need are some great topical products to aid in the process! And this is where the Korean beauty products come in — and I must confess, I’m a total convert! Most experts will tell you the Korean skin-care industry is about a decade ahead of the U.S., and with the results I’ve received from these products, I absolutely believe it.
A word of caution, the Korean skin-care routine is a multi-step process (sometimes 10+ steps), but it’s soooo worth it. Peach & Lily gives a wonderful overview of each step — the purpose and products for each — which you can see here. But basically, it comes down to six (evening) to seven (morning, due to extra step for SPF) steps: 1) oil-based cleanser, 2) water-based cleanser, 3) toner, 4) essence, 5) serum(s), and 6) moisturizer, and in the morning, 7) a BB cream or other lotion with SPF. If you view the entire process as an opportunity to unwind and de-compress, rather than as a chore, it’s quite the spa-like experience!
