Hello! Happy Sunday … I hope you’re keeping warm and cozy! It’s been chilly even here on the California central coast! I’ve been all wrapped up in my favorite sweaters, happy as a clam. What about you?
While I enjoy books all year round — the next few months are my favorite reading time. There’s something so wonderful about curling up by the fire with a good book and coffee or sipping chocolate. And, as if fate new I wanted to share a nice booklist with you, I stumbled upon the most beautiful little book/antique shop called Heirloom Art Co. In addition to one-of-a-kind antiques, they have the most beautiful collection of books, focusing on classic literature, but also offering books in French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Their MacMillan’s Collector’s Library is not only full of some of the most classic literature pieces ever written, but the books themselves are gorgeous! Check it out here.
And if you’re looking for inspiration on where to begin with your reading journey, this book list, entitled “Books That Change Us” is incredible! Any book list that includes Jane Eyre, in my opinion, is bound to be good! C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain, is another gem that I think should be required reading for all human beings. So happy to see it on this list. I ordered a few others to add to my bedside stack, including And There Was Light by Jacques Lusseyran and Deep Work by Cal Newport. I hope you find your next great read here too!
Continuing with all things cozy and warm, if you’re looking for classic comfort food, with a twist, I’ve got it.
We made these heavenly sandwiches for a quick dinner the other night, and they are delightful — savory, rich, and satisfying. I added a quick and easy side salad of mixed greens, marinated mushrooms, artichokes, olives, and pine nuts. I drizzled a simple French vinaigrette (Brianna’s Real French Vinaigrette is my favorite) on top, and sprinkled it with pepper and flaky sea salt (Maldon).
Rosemary Ham & Black Truffle Cheddar Grilled Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Rosemary Ham (available at Trader Joes)
- 3-4 ounces Black Truffle Cheddar Cheese (available at Trader Joes)
- Thick-Sliced Sourdough Bread
- Mustard, preferably Dijon or another grainy, earthy variety
- 2+ tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Place a skillet or large pan on medium heat
- Assemble two sandwiches — layering the ham, sliced cheese, and mustard between two slices of bread
- Generously butter each side of both sandwiches
- Place each sandwich in the pan, letting it cook for 2-3 minutes. Flip over and let the other side cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- In order to ensure the sandwich is fully heated through (and all the cheese has melted), you may need to flip the sandwiches over a few times. Just be careful not to let them sit on one side for too long — they’ll burn!
- Slice in half, and enjoy!
Continuing with the cozy theme, what if I told you I found high-quality, luxurious cashmere sweaters for under $100, would you believe me? Well, I did!
I’m in love with this up-and-coming brand: Quince. They cut out the middleman and are able to bring directly to you some of the softest, fluffiest cashmere sweaters, for half the price. And, it’s not just cashmere — they’ve made a variety of fashionable items affordable for everyone. I recently purchased their cotton fisherman sweater in navy, and I’ll be back for more. Normally, I wouldn’t spend the money on cashmere sweaters for my girls, they grow too fast and I’m hesitant buying luxury items for them when they don’t fully appreciate them or know how to care for them. But I took the plunge this year, and each of my girlies will get to experience the ultimate in soft this Christmas when they receive their very first cashmere sweater. Plus, it gives me the opportunity to teach the how to care for higher-quality items. I really do want them to adopt my philosophy of “fewer but better.” And these sweaters are the perfect starter piece because the prices are that good. Check out a few of my favorites below!

Need I explain more? It’s elegant and slightly rustic all at once. And the best part, it incorporates nicely into a wide variety of styles. If you follow the link to Vintage Revivals, there’s a great tutorial on DIY cane wall panels! They look stunning, don’t they?! Below I also linked to a few of my favorite cane pieces.

Finally, one last little tidbit, because I just thought it was so interesting and if you’re a mom like me, you want all the good parenting advice you can get! I came across a great article this week by Esther Wojcicki entitled “I raised 2 successful CEOs and a doctor. Here’s the ‘unpopular’ parenting rule I always used on my kids.” Ordinarily, I’d blow right by an article claiming to have an easy solution or one-size fits-all tip for parents, but I thought, “what the heck, it’s just one rule, so what is it!?” Turns out, it’s not rocket science, it’s pretty common sense stuff — the key is consistency, which we all struggle with, right? It’s a great read.
Wishing you all a great week — I have a new Essential 25 Post coming your way, plus a few of my favorite holiday outfit ideas.

I have seen a great deal of useful issues on your website about pc’s. However, I have got the view that notebook computers are still less than powerful enough to be a good choice if you typically do projects that require a great deal of power, like video modifying. But for world-wide-web surfing, microsoft word processing, and the majority of other common computer functions they are just fine, provided you cannot mind small screen size. Thanks for sharing your opinions.
