Hello Everyone – welcome to a brand new week!
Now we start the steady march through through fall and into the holiday season! It’s my favorite time of the year by far, and it always goes so fast! You know fall has officially begun when Starbucks busts out the pumpkin lattes 🙂
But, as I’ve made clear in earlier posts, that doesn’t mean you need to pack up all your whites for the year — please, don’t succumb to that antiquated “no white after labor day” nonsense. White is one of the most versatile colors, and you can rock it year ’round. You saw one look last week, and here’s the next in my White After Labor Day Series… a classic black & white color combo … color-pop optional!
There’s no color-combination more timeless or sophisticated than black and white. It’s probably one of the only looks that simultaneously commands attention but doesn’t scream for attention (if you need to think about that for a minute, please do … you’ll get it). It commands attention because it conveys confidence in the most understated and modest way.
I love to add a pretty color pop to the mix occasionally, particularly during the day at the office. But again, that color pop is subtle… keep it confined to your accessories — a scarf (also love this one), your shoes (these color-block ones are gorgeous, and I adore the animal print of these — soft enough to be a neutral, but with a little something extra), or a bag (see this beauty for a splurge!). One note on the bag — if you go for a bright color, it’s best to keep the shape classic, if you’re going for a sophisticated, professional look.
I like to go really minimal with everything else — a simple black leather watch, a pretty ring in a soft, neutral color, and classic cat eyes.
As I said in my first post of this series — one of the easiest ways to transition white into the cooler months is to keep it grounded with black or brown (or really any dark, pigment-rich colors — love it with evergreen!). So, what do you think? Would you be comfortable wearing this look in September or October? Send me a note or leave a comment!
And, don’t miss my next post on Wednesday — French Lessons. Ever notice how French women always look so chic? And they make it look easy … effortless. How do they do it? Find out Wednesday!
Until then 🙂

What a beautiful culotte/pant suit – nicely accessorised with that bright scarf. Nicely done.
