Hello! Happy Sunday … some fun/interesting things from this past week:
Think glowing skin in the winter is impossible — it’s not, I’ve found the magic cure! I’ve been blessed with pretty good skin — not dry, not greasy, just about right. But as I’ve gotten older, my skin is trending drier with each passing year. If I didn’t have a great routine going, I’d be miserable during the cold, dry winter months. This yummy combination by Osea has you covered. For the face, after finishing up your ordinary skincare routine, top it off with the Essential Hydrating Oil. For your body, layer on the Undaria Algae Body Butter and finish with Undaria Algae Body Oil. You can also purchase them together in a bundle at a discount here! Osea also offers subscriptions with a discount.

I came across this fascinating (though very troubling) statistic this past week: TikTok now has over 138 million active users in the United States, and the average user spends an astonishing 95 minutes per day on the app. This becomes all the more troubling when you consider that the Chinese-owned company permits only a sanitized version of the app to its own citizens, limiting the app for kids 14 years and younger to science experiments, museum exhibits, patriotism videos and educational videos. They also limit their children to 40 minutes/day. The western version is filled with everything you’d come to expect on social media in the United States: content that encourages polarization, vanity, envy, and intellectual laziness.
It should come as no surprise then that a survey of preteens in the United States who were asked, “what is the most aspirational career that you want to have?” the number one answer was social media influencer. When children in China were presented with the same question, the number one answer was astronaut. While this obviously presents a huge national security issue for our country, most of us aren’t in a position to change national policy toward China or prohibit or limit our citizens’ use of a social media app.
So what can you do? Stop filling your mind — and letting your children fill their minds — with meaningless videos that not only do nothing to enrich your life or improve your mind, but are actually aimed at making you less thoughtful, more angry, more envious, less active, and less productive.
Think about what you could do with an extra 95 minutes per day! Here are a few ideas:
- Learn a new skill — check out the classes available on udemy.com or wondrium.com. Did you know Stanford University also offers courses to the public online? They do! For kids, check out outschool.com (Livi & Emme both take painting and drawing classes on this platform and they love it)
- Read a book — check out my Sunday post from a few months ago with a book list with titles that will change your life.
- Go for a walk
- Call a friend or family member you haven’t spoken to in a while
- Pot some flowers
- Bake a cake
- Write in a journal
- Do a puzzle or play a game
- Take a class on something you’ve always wanted to learn
- Workout
I received the latest Williams Sonoma catalog this week, and right on the cover was one of my all time favorite things: French Onion Soup.
So, naturally, I went to straight to their webpage to get the recipe … and I thought you should have it too!
I’m also loving their vintage-inspired Famillle Rose Collection — it’s gorgeous and perfect for spring and Easter. Their Heritage Wine Collection is also beautiful.
Finally, with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I wanted to share some sweet finds:
